Job Summary:
The Project Engineer (PE) supports the Project Manager and Operations team in planning, coordinating, and executing projects from award through close-out. This role functions similarly to an Assistant Project Manager, ensuring clean communication, documentation control, material tracking, schedule coordination, and quality/compliance support. The PE helps drive efficiency, accuracy, and customer satisfaction across all active jobs. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, proactive, and able to coordinate across engineering, drafting, fabrication, vendors, and field teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Coordination: Support Project Manager in day-to-day execution of assigned projects. Maintain project schedules, milestone tracking, and deliverable deadlines. Facilitate communication between drafting, engineering, fabrication, and installation teams. Coordinate RFIs, submittals, transmittals, and document distribution.
Document and Date Management: Manage project documentation: drawings, specs, change orders, approvals. Prepare and submit RFI packages, shop drawings, and technical documentation. Maintain accurate project files in internal systems and external as required. Assist in creating fabrication packages and issuing revisions.
Material and Procurement Support: Track materials, long-lead items, and inventory required for each project. Assist with purchasing and vendor coordination. Maintain logs for materials, deliveries, and packing lists. Support cost control and ensure materials meet project specs.
Quality and Compliance: Assist with quality documentation, inspections, and compliance requirements (AISC, AWS, ISO, etc.). Review shop drawings and verify constructability, accuracy, and alignment with contract documents. Support QA/QC reporting and punch lists.
Financial and Contract Support: Track project costs, budgets, and labor hours against estimate. Support billing, schedule of values, and progress payment documentation. Assist PM with change order preparation and pricing information to Estimators. Help maintain job costing accuracy and reporting.
Client and Stakeholder Communication: Participate in project meetings, provide updates and follow up items. Track commitments, deliverables, and outstanding issues. Assist PM in maintaining strong client relationships.
Field Coordination: Support field teams with drawings, documentation, and timely information. Assist with onsite measurements, verifications, and punch list items (as needed). Help maintain safety documentation and jobsite compliance.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
a. 1-3+ years in construction, fabrication, engineering, or a similar project engineering role preferred.
b. Experience in metal fabrication, structural steel, or industrial manufacturing is highly desirable.
c. Technical background in engineering, drafting, or construction management preferred but not required.
Skills Needed:
a. Strong understanding of construction documents, fabrication drawings, and project workflows.
b. Excellent organization and communication skills.
c. Proficiency with MS Office, CAD/PDF viewers, and project management tools.
d. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Working Conditions:
Combination of office work and on-site visits to project locations. On-site work may require exposure to outdoor elements and physical activity lifting up to 40 pounds. Standard working hours with the need for flexibility to meet project deadlines, including occasional weekends and evenings.
