Duties Description The Wadsworth Center, New York State Department of Health, is seeking an outstanding research scientist at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to establish a competitive, extramurally funded, research program in the general area of Environmental Health Sciences. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent research program and lead a public health laboratory focused on organic environmental testing. The independent research program may be at the intersection of mass spectrometry, organic analytical chemistry, environmental toxicology, and public health, and should complement existing strengths within the Center. The successful applicant will join an interactive group of research scientists, which will expand the Center’s existing world-class program in environmental health sciences. Research interests may include, but are not limited to: emerging organic contaminants; microplastics/nanoparticles; novel mass spectrometry applications; and cheminformatics. The successful applicant will receive a start-up package and access to state-of-the-art instrumentation, including Gas Chromatography Tandem Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS/MS), Liquid Chromatography–Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS), High-Resolution Mass Spectrometry (HRMS) (Orbitrap). Qualifications Minimum Qualifications G31 - Doctorate in the natural sciences and three years of professional post-degree research experience in the appropriate field; or a Master's Degree and five years of such experience. Preferred Qualifications: A doctorate degree with 5 years relevant experience managing a successful research team or public health program, as demonstrated by research accomplishments and publications, and expertise in the theory and operation of high-resolution mass spectrometric instrumentation.
